Associate Scientist III (iPSC-CM)

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States; onsite at the South San Francisco office 5 days per week

Salary: $107,000–$114,000 annually for successful US-based applicants, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus and equity incentive plan.

What you will do

• Generate, maintain, and differentiate iPSC lines into cardiomyocytes in 2D monolayer formats with rigorous quality control and scalable workflows.
• Build and characterize patient-derived and CRISPR-edited isogenic iPSC-CM disease models for cardiovascular research.
• Develop and optimize functional assays for contractility, electrophysiology, calcium handling, stress responses, and high-content imaging.
• Design and execute experiments compatible with high-throughput data acquisition and ML-driven drug discovery.
• Document procedures, maintain rigorous laboratory records, prepare SOPs, and present results in team meetings.
• Connect cellular phenotypes with human genetic evidence to support target identification and validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with at least 2 years of relevant biotech or biopharma experience.
• Deep hands-on experience with iPSC culture, cardiac-directed differentiation, and characterization of iPSC-CM models in 2D monolayer formats.
• Experience developing genetic iPSC-CM disease models using patient-derived lines and CRISPR-edited isogenic pairs.
• Experience with cardiomyocyte functional assays, including contractility, calcium handling, electrophysiology, imaging, or stress responses.
• Hands-on expertise with molecular assays such as PCR, RT-qPCR, Western blot, and immunofluorescence.
• Must work onsite at the South San Francisco office 5 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D or engineered heart tissue platforms or organoids.
• Background in cardiomyocyte biology or cardiovascular disease.
• Experience with high-throughput platforms or automated systems.
