Staff Software Engineer (Go)

Location: U.S. Remote

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Shape the architecture and technical direction of highly concurrent distributed backend systems written in Go.
• Drive design decisions for StrongDM’s proxy data plane, including gateways and relays, and its control-plane services.
• Partner with architects, product managers, and DevOps/SRE leaders on multi-quarter platform roadmaps.
• Guide the use of secure network protocols and cryptographic systems, including TLS/mTLS, credential brokering, and key management.
• Lead cross-team code and design reviews, investigate complex production issues, and maintain architectural strategy documentation.
• Mentor engineers and help establish engineering standards across StrongDM and hirify.global.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline.
• Deep expertise in Go, distributed systems, and backend or network services at scale.
• Experience architecting highly concurrent distributed systems and using Go networking and cryptography libraries.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, network protocols, API design, gRPC/Protobuf, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native deployment models.
• Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider in production environments, plus strong analytical and stakeholder communication skills.
• Must already have U.S. work authorization; hirify.global does not consider candidates who require current or future U.S. work authorization sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with multiple cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with Terraform automation, CI/CD pipelines, mTLS, PKI, secrets management, and credential brokering.
• Experience proxying database, SSH/RDP, Kubernetes, or HTTP traffic and building CLI or desktop tooling.
• Experience with Zero Trust architecture, just-in-time access, and policy-as-code such as Cedar.
