Backend Software Engineer (Golang)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, United States; in-person attendance is required three days per week for a full 8-hour business day. Remote days follow core business hours.

Salary: $158.4K–$237.6K annual salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Deliver large projects across billing and financial workflows and maintain key code repositories.
• Design and evolve reliable services, APIs, and data models for billing, payment-model changes, payer integrations, and financial data movement.
• Build durable workflows with clear data ownership, idempotent processing, validation, auditability, and operational signals.
• Diagnose root causes of incidents and data discrepancies while improving maintainability, availability, performance, and observability.
• Collaborate with Product, Finance, Operations, Data, and engineering partners on requirements, roadmaps, and technical strategy.
• Mentor junior engineers, document technical decisions, and integrate AI technologies into engineering and operational processes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of non-internship, full-time professional software development experience and 4+ years working across the software development life cycle.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Golang, Python, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience designing and operating backend services, APIs, data models, relational databases, and asynchronous or distributed workflows.
• Experience delivering production software and handling data integrity, failure management, observability, and cross-functional technical communication.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco office three days per week and during core business hours on remote days.

Nice to have

• Experience with billing, payments, revenue, accounting, claims, or other financial systems.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, workflow orchestration, and scalable cloud services.
• Experience with Golang, Python, gRPC, Postgres, Redis, Temporal, or AWS.
• Experience improving data quality, incident response, developer tooling, or operational visibility.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or applying AI technologies to software design, coding assistance, or process automation.
