Staff Software Engineer (3D/AI)

Location: Remote within the United States, with hiring locations listed in New York City, NY and Durham, NC. The company is fully remote and schedules regular meet-ups in U.S. hubs.

What you will do

• Lead the technical architecture and delivery of the Home Design Experience, a browser-based 3D tool for designing homes.
• Prototype home design workflows and turn successful concepts into customer-ready software.
• Build interactive 3D experiences connecting the UI, design data, and real-time 3D scenes.
• Develop AI-supported and agentic product interactions that help users design homes.
• Own application architecture across frontend systems, application state, service integration, performance, reliability, and testing.
• Partner with product, UX, platform, and other staff-level engineers while mentoring engineers through pairing, code review, and technical guidance.

Requirements

• Experience architecting, building, and shipping substantial web applications through production use.
• Deep hands-on experience with TypeScript, React, modern web application architecture, application state, API integration, performance, and maintainability.
• Experience making independent technical decisions with product or design leads and working effectively with ambiguity.
• Experience collaborating across application and platform teams and deciding which foundations should be generalized for reuse.
• Experience helping less experienced engineers deliver through implementation, mentoring, and technical guidance.
• Applicants must be based in the United States; the listed remote locations are New York City, NY and Durham, NC.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Three.js and browser-based 3D applications, especially design or CAD tools.
• Experience making complex spatial interactions intuitive.
• Strong interest in AI-forward development and AI-supported or agentic product experiences.
• Strong design and product-craft instincts.
