Senior Plant Operator - Lead (Chemical Manufacturing)

Location: Suffolk, Virginia, United States; onsite. The first 1–2 years follow a Monday–Friday daytime schedule, transitioning to a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

Salary: $63,830–$93,610 per year, plus discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

• Operate the plant and handle chemical charges safely while meeting productivity, quality, and throughput targets.
• Support commissioning and startup of a new plant, monitor processes, adjust control parameters, and maintain process control.
• Conduct plant rounds, complete shift turnovers and documentation, and maintain supplies, raw materials, housekeeping, and equipment readiness.
• Serve as a process expert in safety reviews, participate in safety programs, and train colleagues on applicable procedures.
• Provide backup coverage for the Shift Supervisor, including permit support for safe work, hot work, and high-hazard line breaks.
• Create process and maintenance work orders in SAP and support power-outage recovery training.

Requirements

• Onsite work in Suffolk, Virginia, United States, with the ability to transition from a daytime schedule to rotating 12-hour shifts.
• High school diploma, proficient math skills, and written and spoken English.
• Strong knowledge of hazardous chemical handling and the ability to work with PPE, including encapsulated suits, in confined spaces and at heights.
• Ability to lift 55 pounds, walk extensively, bend, climb stairs continuously, operate a forklift, and remain clean-shaven for respirator use.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision and communicate across multiple departments.
• Ability to work within Federal and State safety and environmental regulations, including EPA programs, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA.

Nice to have

• Experience with chemical manufacturing equipment, including reactors, distillation columns, and automation.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Distributed Control Systems and PLCs, especially DeltaV, and data historians.
• Experience with SAP, safety audits, 5S, emergency response, and waste minimization.
