Senior Platform Engineer

Location: Chicago office, United States; US hours required

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year, plus a discretionary bonus.

Proprietary trading firm deploying its own capital across discretionary, systematic, and market-making strategies, with technology focused on improving liquidity across global listed derivatives.

What you will do

• Work with Chicago traders, researchers, and developers to identify platform needs and turn them into actionable requirements.
• Design hosted developer environments, deployment paths, templates, and checks that enable teams to operate applications independently.
• Operate and improve shared on-premises Kubernetes infrastructure supporting production deployments across multiple regions.
• Respond to production incidents during US hours and follow issues through across the Chicago–London timezone gap.
• Contribute to shared platform standards and collaborate with Linux, networking, storage, infrastructure, and trading technology teams.

Requirements

• Approximately six years of experience in platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, or software development.
• Production Kubernetes experience, including deployments, debugging broken changes, and incident response.
• Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD, Helm, and Kustomize; Terraform or similar experience is transferable.
• Ability to write automation code, primarily in Python; Go experience is useful.
• Experience building development or deployment processes that other teams operate independently.
• Ability to work with traders, researchers, and developers, recommend technical directions, and manage follow-up across timezones.

Nice to have

• Experience in a trading firm or another environment where platform users are close to the business.
• Experience with Coder, Gitpod, Codespaces, or another hosted developer environment.
• Experience running Kubernetes on-premises or on bare metal.
• Experience operating Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability stacks.
• Experience using AI-powered tools to improve efficiency and workflows.
