TL;DR
Associate Engineer, Transmission System Planning (MA, CT, NH) (Power Systems): Developing and maintaining transmission system models and supporting reliability studies for Eversource's bulk power system with an accent on power flow, stability, electromagnetic transient, and short-circuit analysis. Focus on testing transmission upgrade solutions, automating study processes with analysis tools, and documenting technical results for regulatory and operational stakeholders.

Location: Hartford, Connecticut, with travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire as necessary. Emergency restoration assignments may require work outside normal hours and locations.

Annual salary: $82,800–$92,000, plus potential incentive eligibility.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain transmission study models, including loads, equipment ratings, impedances, contingencies, protection and control parameters, and system topology.
  • Support steady-state, stability, short-circuit, and electromagnetic transient analyses across Eversource service territories.
  • Prepare study scopes, verify technical models, apply corporate, NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE reliability criteria, and test solutions for adverse system impacts.
  • Coordinate with ISO-NE, distribution planning, engineering, asset management, siting, permitting, and operations stakeholders.
  • Document study results, prepare technical reports, and support presentations to regulators, customers, and affected parties.
  • Automate recurring study processes and assist with the development of training modules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
  • 0–3 years of related experience; internship experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, EMS, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar software.
  • Knowledge of Python, electrical power-system theory, and national, state, and other reliability standards.
  • Relevant knowledge of transmission lines, substations, power-system planning, or related design and operations.
  • Applicants must not require immigration-related sponsorship to start employment in the United States. A valid driver’s license and availability for travel and emergency restoration assignments are required.

Nice to have

  • Internship experience in transmission planning, design, or operations.
  • Knowledge of photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery technologies.
