Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote in the United States; must be based in the United States. Hawaii is excluded.

Salary: $192,000–$240,000 annual base salary, plus equity; no bonus.

What you will do

• Own and improve the patient onboarding journey from initial interaction and registration through insurance verification and starting care.
• Write production code across frontend applications, backend APIs, data models, and distributed systems.
• Lead complex initiatives from problem definition and technical design through implementation, launch, and production support.
• Influence technical direction across Product, Design, Analytics, and Engineering teams by communicating tradeoffs and driving alignment.
• Improve engineering foundations, tooling, documentation, and development practices, including AI-assisted workflows.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including Staff-level scope or leadership of complex initiatives across multiple teams or systems.
• Strong full-stack experience building and maintaining production web applications.
• Depth in modern frontend frameworks, backend APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems.
• Experience with high-impact user journeys such as onboarding, checkout, registration, eligibility, payments, or marketplaces.
• Experience influencing technical direction across functions and driving alignment with Product, Design, Data, or Engineering.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code in regular workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI-powered engineering workflows, tooling, or automation adopted by other engineers.
• Experience in healthcare, insurance, fintech, or another regulated domain.
• Experience using product, operational, or funnel data to evaluate engineering investments.
• Experience improving engineering leverage through tooling, documentation, shared architecture, or knowledge distribution.
