Senior/Staff Verification & Validation Engineer (Autonomous Transit)

Location: In-person in Richmond, California, United States; regular travel or on-site presence is expected at test facilities, vehicle facilities, test tracks, production locations, and project deployment sites.

Salary: $135,000–$200,000 USD annually, plus stock options, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Develop system-level test scenarios, procedures, acceptance criteria, and verification reports for autonomous transit features, operational workflows, degraded modes, and safety-relevant behavior.
• Create and maintain End-of-Line, production-acceptance, commissioning, and post-rework tests for vehicles, subsystems, and configured assets.
• Execute and oversee testing across simulation, laboratory, vehicle, test-track, production, and project-site environments.
• Maintain requirements traceability, configuration evidence, pass/fail criteria, test data, logs, and technical conclusions.
• Analyze telemetry, dashboards, logs, and field observations; track failures through root-cause analysis, regression scope, and fix verification.
• Improve test workflows and build practical scripts, dashboards, utilities, and reporting tools while collaborating across engineering, safety, manufacturing, quality, operations, and deployment teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, robotics, aerospace, mechanical, electrical, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of experience in system testing, systems integration, product validation, verification and validation, manufacturing test, autonomous systems, robotics, transportation, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, industrial automation, or comparable complex hardware/software systems.
• Experience developing or executing system-level, integration-level, production-acceptance, or End-of-Line tests, including scenario design, procedures, acceptance criteria, execution, analysis, and reporting.
• Strong understanding of requirements-based testing, test coverage, evidence quality, configuration control, and defect management.
• Ability to analyze logs, telemetry, test data, and system behavior using Python, dashboards, log viewers, notebooks, or equivalent tools.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical risks, outcomes, and blockers clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with autonomous vehicles, automated transit, railway systems, robotics, aerospace, automotive ADAS, or other safety-critical mobility platforms.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, simulation, automated regression, or continuous-integration testing.
• Familiarity with Jama, DOORS, Polarion, SysML, Jira, GitHub, or equivalent requirements and lifecycle tools.
• Experience building reusable test automation, data-analysis tools, dashboards, or report-generation workflows.
• Ability to read, modify, or write C/C++ for embedded systems, test harnesses, or low-level debugging.
