Senior/Staff Systems Safety Engineer, Platform Systems (Autonomous Vehicles)

Salary: $132,300–$291,150 annually, plus annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive system-level safety architecture and requirements for autonomy hardware and firmware.
• Decompose vehicle-level safety goals into Functional Safety Concepts and Technical Safety Concepts, including safety mechanisms, fault reactions, and safe states.
• Develop SOTIF specifications, performance targets, and acceptance criteria for safety-critical sensors and compute systems.
• Lead HARA, FMEA, FTA, and DFA analyses to identify risks and derive safety requirements.
• Collaborate with controls, embedded software, hardware teams, and external partners on requirements and test plans.
• Support SIL/HIL and on-road verification, analyze test data, and maintain safety-case sections using GSN and residual-risk assessments.

Requirements

• Hands-on systems engineering and automotive functional-safety experience, including requirements generation.
• 3+ years of experience in system architecture for safety-critical systems.
• 3+ years of experience with fault-management or diagnostics systems for automotive applications.
• Ability to read C code and write Python or MATLAB code.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in Mountain View, California.

Nice to have

• Autonomous-vehicle or ADAS experience.
• Familiarity with STPA or ISO 21448.
• Experience developing and articulating a Safety Case based on UL 4600.
• Experience with HIL testing or on-road testing.
