TL;DR
Test Engineer II (Aerospace): Designing, building, and operating test rigs and ground support equipment for ECLSS fluid, chemical, and electrical control systems with an accent on hands-on hardware integration, instrumentation, and test traceability. Focus on supporting Haven-1 flight hardware campaigns, developing production-ready test processes, troubleshooting anomalies, and analyzing test data.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. The role requires access to items subject to U.S. export controls; the hire must be a U.S. person or eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $112,340–$159,468 USD per year.

What you will do

  • Design, build, operate, and troubleshoot test rigs and ground support equipment for ECLSS fluid, chemical, and electrical control systems.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, integration, instrumentation, and testing of pumps, valves, sensors, tubing, and control hardware.
  • Own hardware test campaigns from setup through execution, data collection, analysis, and anomaly investigation.
  • Develop test procedures, work instructions, wiring diagrams, schematics, data-acquisition setups, and hardware documentation.
  • Support Haven-1 flight-hardware acceptance and qualification campaigns, as well as development testing for ECLSS and CLD-derived hardware.
  • Help transition R&D testing into standardized, production-ready processes and contribute to test-readiness reviews and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid or chemical systems, including fittings, valves, pumps, sensors, and pressure systems.
  • Ability to build, operate, and troubleshoot test rigs and hardware from setup through data collection.
  • Ability to create test procedures and work instructions and maintain traceability throughout testing.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export-control requirements.
  • Willingness to work overtime or weekends during critical mission milestones and lift up to 25 lb unassisted.

Nice to have

  • CAD experience, such as Siemens NX, for design review and test or manufacturing documentation.
  • Python programming experience for test automation and data-analysis tools.
  • Experience managing hardware development or test campaigns from concept through execution.
  • Familiarity with Spacecraft Maximum Allowable Concentrations and human-spaceflight air-quality assessment.
  • Experience with chemical testing, instrumentation, SDS requirements, and chemical storage and waste disposal.
