Design Engineer (React/AI)

Location: Hybrid work with collaboration at the Boston office three days a week

What you will do

• Own front-end quality across the product by reducing UI and UX debt and improving implementation patterns.
• Lead UI implementation for new features from concept through launch in partnership with product managers, designers, and engineers.
• Own and evolve Telegraph, including component APIs, composition patterns, interaction standards, and documentation.
• Build fast, resilient, accessible interfaces with semantic HTML, keyboard support, focus management, testing, and performance optimization.
• Develop reusable components, guidelines, sandboxes, and documentation that improve consistency across product teams.
• Build infrastructure and workflows for AI-accelerated development, including automated QA, code review processes, design-engineering tool integrations, and prototyping templates.

Requirements

• Strong experience with React, JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and modern CSS.
• Experience with Git, pull requests, code reviews, and shared codebases.
• Ability to evaluate designs and components, explain improvement opportunities, and maintain a high standard of craft.
• Ability to prioritize speed, reusability, accessibility, cross-browser support, and functional motion during implementation.
• Genuine curiosity about AI tooling and a practical understanding of how to build with these tools.
• Portfolio or GitHub demonstrating attention to detail and high-quality software work.

Nice to have

• Experience with motion or animation using Motion for React, GSAP, or CSS animations.
• Experience owning or significantly contributing to a React component design system.
