Staff Design Engineer (React/TypeScript)

Location: San Francisco, hybrid; office attendance required 3 days per week

Salary: $215,000–$280,000 for Tier 1 locations including San Francisco, plus equity

What you will do

• Own the Stylus design system roadmap, triage, governance, adoption, accessibility coverage, and documentation health.
• Build complex shared components and primitives where visual quality and performance must be balanced.
• Create interactive prototypes in React and TypeScript, then validate interactions with customers.
• Collaborate directly with designers in Figma and code while assessing implementation trade-offs.
• Align design tokens with code, migrate legacy components, and maintain effective Figma-to-code tooling.
• Develop AI-ready design primitives, agent workflows, prompts, skills, and tooling; mentor engineers on design principles.

Requirements

• 8+ years of frontend development experience with strong design judgment and deep knowledge of CSS, the DOM, and browser rendering.
• Experience owning a design system, including components, primitives, tokens, versioning, adoption, and governance.
• Ability to define product interactions, shape a roadmap, prioritize work, and make clear trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, accessibility, keyboard and touch input, and user preferences.
• Experience using AI development tools such as Cursor and Claude Code and helping others use them effectively.

Nice to have

• Figma plugins, automations, or CI checks for design-system adoption and accessibility reporting.
• Web components or multi-framework experience, including systems shipped to non-React surfaces.
• Experience with desktop applications, browser extensions, agent-facing interfaces, or generative UI.
