Lead Frontend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Carlos, California, with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States. Due to U.S. export control regulations, candidates must be U.S. Persons.

Salary: $224K–$260K annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and implement React-based features for a flight safety platform.
• Architect frontend systems that handle large-scale, real-time, and historical aviation data.
• Integrate, process, and visualize live streams and archived datasets from multiple sources.
• Mentor engineers and guide engineering practices through code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Collaborate with backend engineering, product management, and UX/UI design.
• Build reusable components and internal libraries while maintaining reliable, well-tested frontend systems.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience building and shipping high-performance, user-facing web applications.
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, state management, HTML, and CSS.
• Strong experience with asynchronous frontend patterns and live or historical data streams.
• Experience owning complex features or product areas from concept through delivery.
• Ability to optimize frontend performance for scalability, responsiveness, and reliability.
• Must be a U.S. Person and able to perform all work in the United States; visa sponsorship and visa transfers are not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with geospatial or mapping tools such as Mapbox or Cesium.
• Experience with live data streaming and playback systems.
• Experience with video streaming technologies and real-time media delivery.
• Interest in aviation safety and air travel efficiency.
