Design Engineer, UX Product (AI)

Location: San Jose, United States. Hybrid work is expected, with office attendance generally Monday through Thursday and flexible remote work on Fridays; some roles or assigned offices may require five days per week.

Salary: $200,000–$220,000 annual base salary for California.

What you will do

• Own the technical platform supporting AI-assisted UX research, discovery, concept exploration, design review, prototyping, and post-launch measurement.
• Build integrations connecting AI tools with the systems designers use, and maintain reliable versioning, evaluation, and quality regression practices.
• Design coherent workflows across tools and stages, ensuring context and structured outputs move effectively through the process.
• Establish secure and compliant patterns for designer-built tools and prototypes that use real product data, working with security and privacy teams.
• Own hosting and deployment infrastructure for prototypes, micro-apps, and tools, while supporting authentication, integrations, and environment troubleshooting.
• Develop shared AI assistants, automations, commands, workflows, and UI components, serving as the primary UX–engineering infrastructure liaison.

Requirements

• Experience in a hybrid design and engineering role bridging both disciplines.
• Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and a modern framework such as React, Vue, or Next.js.
• Experience with AI application tooling, including MCP integrations, custom agents, evaluation harnesses, or comparable LLM infrastructure.
• Experience with hosting, deployment, CI/CD pipelines, API integration, secure credential handling, and real-data prototypes.
• Working knowledge of web application security, PII handling, secure data access, and shared tooling or component libraries.
• Design sensibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to participate in design critiques and read Figma files fluently; a relevant degree or equivalent practical experience is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Figma Make, Claude, v0, or similar.
• Experience with AWS or GitLab Pages.
