Senior Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Remote in the United States; not eligible for hiring in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, or the surrounding areas. Occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.

Salary: $207,200–$259,000 for listed states and Washington, D.C.; $219,360–$274,200 for New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California outside the San Francisco Bay Area; $243,680–$304,600 for the San Francisco Bay Area.

What you will do

• Lead engineering teams responsible for phone-number porting, hosting, and compliant A2P messaging products.
• Own the delivery roadmap across customer-facing services, internal platform APIs, and operational tooling.
• Drive adoption of AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Anthropic Claude, and internal LLMs.
• Ensure system reliability, incident response, on-call health, security, and SLO-driven improvements.
• Partner with Product Management, operations, customer-facing teams, and dependent engineering groups to balance priorities and communicate trade-offs.
• Recruit, coach, and retain a diverse engineering team while supporting career growth from mid-level to staff-plus.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years of engineering management experience, including leadership of 10+ engineers.
• Strong experience designing and operating highly available, cloud-native distributed systems.
• Deep familiarity with AWS, including Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, and Kafka, plus Kubernetes, Terraform, microservices, and infrastructure as code.
• Demonstrated experience adopting AI tools within an engineering team and delivering complex software products.
• Experience building inclusive, high-performing teams, managing performance, and developing engineers from mid-level to staff-plus.
• Strong stakeholder communication and operational experience covering incident management, on-call rotations, and reliability improvements.

Nice to have

• Experience leading internal platform or operational tooling teams with a product mindset for internal customers.
• Experience scaling teams, onboarding engineers, reshaping processes, and managing ambiguity.
