Senior Manager, Back End Engineering

Location: Remote within the U.S., excluding U.S. territories. Core meeting hours are 9AM–2PM Pacific time. Occasional travel may be requested but is not required. Employees in the San Francisco Bay Area or Providence, Rhode Island may commute to local offices as desired.

Salary: $249,000–$367,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop mid-level, senior, and staff software engineers.
• Provide architectural guidance and support technical decision-making for back end systems.
• Partner with Product Management, Program Management, engineering leaders, and other teams to deliver products.
• Improve engineering processes, team efficiency, and delivery effectiveness.
• Lead sprint and roadmap planning, capacity modeling, and resourcing.
• Drive team performance across throughput, product quality, security, and system performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, equivalent education and relevant experience, or equivalent relevant experience.
• 8–10 years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years of engineering management experience.
• Experience with personnel development, performance management, project management, and stakeholder management.
• Experience with sprint and roadmap planning, capacity modeling, and resourcing.
• Strong technical architecture fluency focused on back end systems.
• Ability to work remotely from the U.S., excluding U.S. territories, with availability during core Pacific Time meeting hours.

Nice to have

• Experience in insurance, banking, investing, or another financial sector.
• Experience with AI-assisted engineering, spec-driven development, context and harness engineering, or autonomous agentic workflows.
• Familiarity with Go, Python, TypeScript, GraphQL, gRPC, Postgres, Mongo, Snowflake, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
