Senior Systems Engineer (Network, Cloud & Cybersecurity)

Location: Based in Sterling, VA (Washington, DC metro area), with minimal travel to support client engagements.

Salary: $125,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

• Build, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, LAN, WAN, and remote-site connectivity.
• Administer physical and virtual servers, hypervisors, operating systems, storage, directory services, access controls, backups, and recovery processes.
• Support cloud and hybrid environments, including virtual networks, cloud access controls, and connectivity between AWS or Azure and on-premises resources.
• Harden systems and network devices, maintain firewall rules and segmentation, remediate vulnerabilities, and support investigations of infrastructure security events.
• Develop automation with Python, PowerShell, and Ansible; configure monitoring and alerting; and report on infrastructure health, availability, performance, and utilization.
• Create SOPs, diagrams, configuration baselines, and troubleshooting guides while collaborating with software engineers and field IT staff and mentoring junior personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or 5+ additional years of relevant experience in lieu of education.
• 5+ years of relevant systems and network engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting enterprise routing, switching, and firewall platforms.
• Experience administering Windows and Linux servers and virtualization platforms.
• Working knowledge of cloud networking and hybrid connectivity in AWS or Azure.
• Proficiency with scripting and shell environments for automation and administration.

Nice to have

• CCNA, CCNP, Security+, or AWS Solutions Architect – Associate certification.
• Experience with air-gapped, isolated, or closed network environments in secure settings.
• Experience supporting secure communications, VTC infrastructure, multi-site infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, or configuration management.
