Software Test Engineer 2

Location: US - Bay Area - Hayward; regular work with physical instruments in a laboratory and manufacturing environment

Salary: $103,000–$154,600 base salary annually, plus eligible bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Support software and system troubleshooting on the manufacturing floor and during new product introduction for sequencing instruments.
• Develop test strategies, plans, and cases from product, system, and software requirements.
• Execute functional, integration, system, regression, and exploratory testing for software features, server applications, and instrument integrations.
• Own verification activities for assigned features or subsystems, including defect reporting, documentation, and results analysis.
• Investigate defects and perform root-cause analysis across software, firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and systems boundaries.
• Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Development, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams while maintaining compliance and security requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in software testing, software quality, software systems integration, or a related role.
• Experience with functional, integration, system, and regression testing, including independently owning feature- or subsystem-level verification.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across software, firmware, hardware, and system boundaries.
• Familiarity with Jira, Jama, Linux, Windows, command-line tools, server or compute environments, and production or customer network configurations.
• Ability to work regularly with physical instruments in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with embedded systems, communication protocols, hardware integration, or test automation.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity regulations, regulated environments, or medical devices.
• Python or shell scripting and AI-assisted engineering tools for testing, troubleshooting, documentation, or analysis.
• Project management, technical issue triage, software requirements, or Scrum leadership experience.
