Mechanical Engineer (Optomechanics & Quantum Sensing)

Location: Munich, Germany; full-time, permanent employee position.

hirify.global is a 2022 TU Munich spin-off developing quantum sensing tools for semiconductor inspection, chip debugging, and failure analysis.

What you will do

• Develop mechanical and optomechanical concepts for laboratory demonstrators of widefield Quantum Diamond Microscopes.
• Translate optical, RF, and magnetic requirements into stable, accessible, and modifiable mechanical designs.
• Drive rapid prototyping using 3D printing, laser cutting, machining, and off-the-shelf components; build, test, and iterate designs.
• Integrate optics, lasers, microwave delivery, magnetics, electronics, and diamond sensors into functional systems.
• Design for stiffness, thermal drift, material compatibility, and tolerance requirements.
• Create SolidWorks CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, and documentation, and coordinate design handover to the Product Development Team.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or comparable technical qualification with hands-on design experience.
• Solid working knowledge of SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD tool and the ability to create manufacturable designs.
• Practical knowledge of rapid prototyping, including 3D printing, laser cutting, or CNC basics.
• Hands-on experience building, measuring, adjusting, and rebuilding mechanical designs.
• Strong spatial reasoning, systems thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
• English is the working language; the role is based in Munich, Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience with precision engineering, tolerance budgets, or optomechanical design.
• Knowledge of material properties and compatibility with optical, RF, and magnetic environments.
• Physics-oriented background or interest in quantum diamond microscope measurement principles.
• Experience with FEA, machining, or external manufacturing partners.
