Principal Engineer, AI Platform

Location: San Ramon, CA; Reno, NV; New York, NY; or Remote - USA

Salary: $253,000–$316,000 annually; $278,000–$347,500 annually in select locations including the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City Metro Area.

What you will do

• Define technical strategy and architecture for the AI platform and shared AI capabilities.
• Lead scalable, reliable, secure, and responsible adoption of AI platform capabilities across engineering teams.
• Resolve systemic platform obstacles and help migrate one-off AI solutions to shared platform capabilities.
• Establish engineering, reliability, and AI model evaluation standards for production systems.
• Architect retrieval-augmented generation integrations with third-party data stores, model routing, and code execution systems.
• Partner with Engineering, Product, Data, and other functions to evaluate new AI features and align technical decisions.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with deep systems architecture expertise.
• Production experience building and shipping AI-powered products, including agentic loops, structured responses, tool calling, MCP, and RAG.
• Experience designing scalable system architectures and establishing software development, reliability, and model evaluation standards.
• Full-stack AI product development experience with proficiency in Kotlin, TypeScript, and React.
• Experience with Anthropic and/or OpenAI models and APIs.
• Proven ability to drive architectural decisions, align stakeholders, integrate third-party data, and improve model performance and token efficiency.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent systems, AI agent orchestration, or advanced model evaluation.
• Background in financial services or investment management.
• Open-source AI/ML contributions or relevant publications.
