Senior API Platform Solutions Design Engineer (Java)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work with the option to work from home while collaborating with a globally distributed team

Salary: CAD 90,000–140,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and roll out enhancements for the API Platform across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Design and implement change data capture solutions for real-time data replication, scalability, and performance.
• Build automation features and maintain platform infrastructure covering gateways, service mesh, runtimes, security, logging, and exception handling.
• Consult with business delivery teams on REST API standards, OpenAPI specifications, API governance, and delivery solutions.
• Use CI/CD pipelines, troubleshoot platform defects, and conduct performance and load testing with required optimizations.
• Create CDC technical documentation and mentor team members on build and deployment best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of programming experience with Java.
• Professional experience with DevOps, Kubernetes, and AWS Cloud.
• Understanding of APIs, event-driven solutions, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of REST API design standards and API specifications such as OpenAPI.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, consulting, collaboration, and influencing skills.

Nice to have

• Apache Kafka and Confluent Platform experience.
• Python or JavaScript programming and scripting for operations automation.
• AWS serverless development with Lambda and API Gateway.
• CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Groovy, plus Spring Boot development.
• Experience with secure coding, load testing, performance optimization, event sourcing, and choreography-based SAGA patterns.
