Principal Software Developer (Backend)

Location: Remote from Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 131,000–191,400 annual base salary, depending on experience and geographic location. Additional compensation may include annual cash bonuses, stock grants, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build scalable backend services and cloud infrastructure for AEC data validation and collaboration capabilities.
• Develop and maintain reliable, secure, and high-performance cloud services.
• Mentor developers and support continuous learning and technical improvement.
• Maintain code quality through automated deployments, unit and integration testing, and continuous improvement.
• Document and present technical solutions, deliver team commitments on time, and participate in production on-call rotations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience building enterprise-level cloud services.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Backend development experience with Java and strong knowledge of cloud architecture, serverless computing, microservices, infrastructure as code, GitOps, and AWS best practices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS, and SNS.
• Experience with security, authentication, authorization, relational and NoSQL databases, data modeling, ORM frameworks, caching, distributed systems, and RESTful APIs.
• Experience monitoring backend performance, optimizing scalability and response times, and working with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architecture.
• Hands-on experience with AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or VSCode Copilot.
• Familiarity with spec-driven development and agentic coding tools.
