Senior Process Engineer, Mechanical Engineering (Mining)

Location: Hybrid position based preferably in Duluth, Minnesota or Bloomington, Minnesota; candidates in greater Minnesota and Wisconsin may also be considered. The role typically requires three days in the office and two days remotely, plus travel to hirify.global offices, project sites, conferences, and team events.

What you will do

• Lead process engineering for mining, mineral processing, aggregate, metals, and heavy industrial projects.
• Develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, process design criteria, calculations, and equipment specifications.
• Design and evaluate process piping, slurry transport, pumping and dewatering, bulk solids handling, conveying, crushing, storage, dust collection, water treatment, and utility systems.
• Lead multidisciplinary project scope, budgets, schedules, design reviews, hazard assessments, constructability reviews, and operational readiness activities.
• Coordinate with clients and engineering disciplines, support proposals and fee estimates, and develop long-term client relationships.
• Mentor engineers and establish process engineering standards, design practices, and quality procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, metallurgical, mining, or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience serving as a lead engineer on multidisciplinary industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of process design methodologies, hydraulic systems, process piping, industrial pumping, bulk solids handling, equipment selection, and process safety.
• Experience with PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, and engineering specifications.
• Strong communication, leadership, and project coordination skills.
• Ability to travel periodically to active industrial facilities and project sites.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license and twelve or more years of progressive engineering experience in mining, mineral processing, bulk materials handling, industrial manufacturing, or similar environments.
• Experience with slurry pipelines, abrasive process systems, process simulation and modeling software, industrial controls, instrumentation, commissioning, or startup activities.
• Previous consulting engineering experience and leadership of engineering teams or large project scopes.
