Staff DevOps Automation Engineer (AI)

Location: USA - Remote; up to 10% travel required. The role is part of the CIO Office located in Washington, DC.

Salary: $180K–$220K annual salary, plus eligible bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Design, build, automate, and operate secure, scalable Azure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines, self-service capabilities, and resource provisioning frameworks for data scientists and engineers.
• Establish observability, monitoring, alerting, reliability practices, support models, and operational processes for platform stability.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies and services to improve platform capabilities, scalability, and user experience.
• Translate requirements into platform solutions, define technical standards, document architectures, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software, platform, or infrastructure engineering experience, including hands-on data or AI/ML infrastructure work.
• Deep expertise with AWS or Azure and working familiarity with multi-cloud data and AI services.
• Strong experience with Terraform or Pulumi, CI/CD tooling, Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one of Python, Go, or Bash.
• Strong security and networking fundamentals, with experience in monitoring, observability, incident response, and production reliability.
• Ability to set technical direction at platform scale, drive cross-team architecture decisions, establish standards, and mentor engineers.
• Must work remotely from the USA and be able to travel up to 10%.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, diagnostics, biotechnology, or related R&D, quality, clinical, manufacturing, or commercial environments.
• Experience with HIPAA, GxP, SOX, regulatory compliance, and rigorous data governance.
• Experience working in a matrixed environment.
