EPL & D&O Liability Associate Claim Counsel (Insurance)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States

Salary: $89,800–$148,300 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Investigate, analyze, evaluate, and resolve lower-severity Bond & Specialty Insurance claims.
• Manage outside counsel and vendors, monitor litigation plans and budgets, and negotiate settlements.
• Prepare reports on loss development, financial exposure, and resolution strategies.
• Coordinate recovery efforts and participate in mediations, settlement conferences, trials, depositions, and business meetings.
• Provide legal and business support to underwriting teams, including reviewing contracts and bond forms, negotiating indemnity documentation, and drafting product forms and endorsements.
• Maintain accurate claim files, documentation, confidentiality, and compliance with claims procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor degree.
• Active authorization and good standing to practice law in the jurisdiction of employment, with ongoing CLE compliance.
• Insurance Adjuster License(s) must generally be obtained within three months of starting the role and maintained with required continuing education.
• One to five years of relevant legal or claims-handling experience.
• Strong communication, negotiation, decision-making, organization, and relationship-building skills.
• Valid driver’s license or alternative transportation for travel to mediations, conferences, field offices, trials, and depositions.
