Associate Counsel - New York (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid role based in Westbury, NY, with hirify.global Staff Counsel located in Melville, NY. The position is aligned to venues in the Bronx, including Staten Island and Manhattan, Queens, Nassau, Middletown, or Syracuse, and requires travel for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed across New York courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and case value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery.
• Conduct and defend depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearings, as applicable.

Requirements

• 2–6+ years of related field litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury litigation.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the New York Bar and an active license in good standing to practice law in New York are required.
• Ability to meet and maintain applicable licensing and continuing legal education requirements.
• Strong professional written and verbal communication, organization, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
