Field Engineer (Network and Systems Infrastructure)

Location: Based in Sterling, VA, in the Washington, DC metro area, with frequent travel throughout the United States. Travel may reach 75% during active deployment periods, including extended on-site assignments of four to six weeks.

Salary: $95,000–$125,000 per year

What you will do

• Deploy, configure, and sustain network and systems infrastructure at customer and program sites.
• Conduct site surveys, rack and cable equipment, configure hardware, and complete acceptance testing and customer handoffs.
• Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPN tunnels, circuits, and remote access.
• Install and administer Windows and Linux servers, workstations, virtualization hosts, endpoints, and software distribution tools.
• Apply security baselines, hardening standards, change control, and configuration management procedures.
• Produce as-built documentation, network diagrams, site records, trip reports, runbooks, and knowledge base articles while coordinating with engineering and program teams.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or four additional years of relevant experience in lieu of education.
• At least three years of experience in field operations, IT infrastructure, or systems and network administration.
• Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls.
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux administration and virtualization platforms.
• Ability to work independently at remote sites with limited supervision and provide customer-facing technical support.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently throughout the United States, including extended on-site assignments; a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a passport are required.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• CCNA, Security+, or Network+ certification.
• Experience with multi-site deployments, distributed infrastructure, air-gapped networks, secure communications, or VTC infrastructure.
• Familiarity with structured cabling, power distribution, and rack layout practices.
