Senior Professional Engineer, Structural Engineering

Location: Hybrid position based preferably in Duluth or Bloomington, Minnesota; candidates in greater Minnesota or Wisconsin may be considered. Employees typically work three days in the office and two days remotely. Travel to offices, project sites, conferences, and team events is required, with travel of up to 30% and occasional overnight stays.

What you will do

• Lead structural design efforts for complex heavy industrial facilities and site operations in mining, mineral processing, aggregate, metals, and manufacturing.
• Prepare structural plans, specifications, design details, technical reports, and construction documentation.
• Design and assess structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete systems for new construction, renovations, expansions, conversions, and reinforcements.
• Conduct condition assessments of existing structures and develop repair plans and specifications.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams and oversee technical, quality, financial, and safety aspects from conception through construction.
• Support proposals, fee estimates, client presentations, stakeholder relationships, and other business development activities while mentoring less experienced professionals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
• Structural Engineer registration in Minnesota and at least 10 years of progressive experience designing heavy industrial structures are required.
• Proficiency with RISA 3D or Ram Structural System, MathCAD, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete design.
• Experience with structural condition assessments, repair design, technical reports, proposals, project meetings, and client presentations.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, mentoring ability, and flexibility to travel up to 30% are required.

Nice to have

• Professional registration in additional states.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Business development experience, including proposals, fee estimates, and capabilities presentations.
• Experience or interest in managing multidisciplinary projects.
