Director, Principal Structural Engineer

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; office-based role with travel to project sites as required

What you will do

• Own structural engineering standards, tools, methods, quality, budget, and resourcing across the project portfolio.
• Build, lead, and develop the structural engineering team, including hiring, performance management, and career growth.
• Serve as Engineer of Record for design-build projects from design through construction completion.
• Lead structural calculations and documentation for complete building and wall systems across architecture, materials science, print path, and construction teams.
• Coordinate structural design delivery with architects, MEP consultants, construction architects, print path technologists, contractors, and project managers.
• Conduct field inspections, structural testing, site observations, and reviews of consultant drawings, shop drawings, and submittals.

Requirements

• 9+ years of structural engineering experience, including meaningful exposure to concrete structural systems.
• Licensed PE in the state of residence and ability to obtain Texas PE licensure within 6–8 weeks of hire.
• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Experience with concrete, wood-framed, light-gauge steel, and structural steel systems.
• Proficiency with structural analysis and computational design tools, including AutoCAD, Abaqus or equivalent FEA software, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings, building envelope details, structural specifications, test methods, and code-compliance standards while managing multiple projects against hard deadlines.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Experience with computational design, parametric structural modeling, Trimble Tekla, Autodesk Forge, or CATIA.
• Background in forensic structural investigation, failure analysis, sustainability metrics, embodied carbon, life-cycle assessment, or material efficiency.
• Experience with novel or non-standard construction methods beyond established code pathways.
