Sr. Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid NY-based position with four days per week in-office

Salary: $210,000–$245,000 per year in New York City, plus potential variable compensation through a company incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Manage a team of 6–8 backend engineers building trading technology for investing products.
• Support career development, mentoring, technical engagement, and high-quality project outcomes.
• Participate in code reviews, understand the codebase and business domains, and guide technical decisions.
• Champion maintainability, reliability, correctness, and appropriate solution design while balancing delivery speed.
• Improve team processes and practices to deliver high-impact engineering outcomes.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Compliance, stakeholders, and vendors.

Requirements

• 3+ years of formal engineering management experience with direct reports.
• 8+ years of experience building and maintaining backend distributed systems using Java or a similar strongly typed language.
• Experience managing, mentoring, and developing engineers while fostering accountability and ownership.
• Experience building high-performing teams focused on execution speed, quality, stability, and reliability.
• Ability to adapt leadership style, close knowledge gaps quickly, and translate business strategy into engineering initiatives.
• Strong collaboration skills with engineering, product, subject-matter, non-technical, and vendor stakeholders.
