Senior System Engineer (IBM Mainframe)

Location: Remote, United States; Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM CST

Salary: $92,730–$102,500 per year, with possible additional compensation such as bonuses

What you will do

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM z/OS operating systems and mainframe subsystems.
• Install and maintain independent software vendor products using SMP/E.
• Customize system parameters, libraries, and subsystems to meet organizational requirements.
• Apply PTFs and APARs, plan and execute system IPLs, and support storage management across DASD, SMS, and DFSMS.
• Troubleshoot software issues, analyze dumps, and document system configurations, procedures, and changes.
• Collaborate with application teams, operations, and vendors; participate in on-call rotations and after-hours maintenance windows.

Requirements

• Strong experience with IBM z/OS internals, system components, and SMP/E.
• Strong experience with JCL, REXX, SAS, COBOL, TSO/ISPF, BMC MainView, CMF, BMC AmiOps, Phoenix EJES, Innovation FDR, DSF, FDREPORT, IAM, and Chicago Soft QwickRef.
• Knowledge of system utilities including IEBCOPY, IDCAMS, and IEBGENER.
• Experience with system IPLs, dump analysis, and problem determination.
• Master’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or another technical discipline plus 10 years of experience, or 10 additional years of relevant experience in place of education.
• Ability to pass a Tier 4/High Background Investigation.

Nice to have

• Experience with IBM CICS and other subsystems.
• Familiarity with automation and scheduling tools.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery, high availability, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
