Senior Software Engineer (Apps)

Location: Lawrence, Kansas, United States; office-based work required

Salary: $111,500–$170,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop modern C++ software for control algorithms, ground control station interfaces, and payload integration.
• Support Android ground control station software and cross-platform applications for Linux and Android.
• Own software architecture and design decisions while balancing performance, reliability, maintainability, risk, and schedule.
• Troubleshoot aircraft and payload issues and work with third-party vendors to integrate new payloads.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, software disciplines, the Chief Engineer, and Product Line Manager on requirements and new projects.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, user manuals, and other technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of related experience, or a master’s degree with 6 years, or a PhD with 4 years.
• Extensive hands-on experience with modern C++, maintainable software architecture, and modular system design.
• Experience with DDS or similar protocols, distributed data across constrained networks, and networking principles.
• Experience developing software for mechatronic or hardware-integrated systems, including deterministic and real-time systems.
• Ability to work directly with technical and non-technical customers.
• U.S. Citizenship is required; applicants must qualify as a U.S. person or be eligible for export-license approval under ITAR/EAR requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with CMake, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kotlin, or Java.
• Experience with UAS, drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles, or embedded systems.
• Experience building for Android and Linux on x86 and ARM platforms.
• Willingness to travel locally occasionally.
