Senior Android Engineer - Mobile Platform & Systems (Android)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite collaboration with hardware and firmware teams

Annual pay range: $150,000–$265,000 USD in on-target earnings for full-time employees, with potential additional bonuses, incentives, or equity.

What you will do

• Maintain and evolve a scalable, accessible Native Component Library built with Jetpack Compose.
• Improve Android developer experience through CI/CD optimization, test automation, and automated multi-team releases.
• Develop and maintain networking infrastructure for offline-first synchronization, intelligent caching, and secure data transfer.
• Implement low-level BLE, NFC, and custom Wi-Fi protocols for secure and reliable hardware connectivity.
• Optimize the type-safe bridge between web components and native sensors, secure enclaves, and system logic.
• Consult product teams on architecture patterns such as Server-Driven UI and balance native performance with engineering velocity.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional Android development experience with strong Kotlin and Android SDK expertise.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD, including tools such as GitHub Actions or Bitrise, and a test-first approach.
• Strong knowledge of OkHttp, Retrofit, Protobuf, networking reliability, and unreliable network conditions at scale.
• Hands-on experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC, or Android background execution limitations.
• Expertise in Jetpack Compose and scaling shared UI libraries across multiple teams.
• Experience managing Google Play Store releases with high deployment frequency and multiple contributors.
