Hardware Design & PCB Layout Engineer - Advanced Power Electronics (EV)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan, with reporting to the specific location at least three times a week

What you will do

• Lead development of next-generation inverter and power electronics hardware for electric vehicle applications.
• Design digital and analog hardware, schematics, PCB layouts, simulations, and engineering documentation.
• Perform electromagnetic, signal integrity, power integrity, worst-case circuit, thermal, and system-level analyses.
• Design high-frequency transformers, inductors, planar and PCB-embedded magnetics, and high-voltage PCB structures.
• Optimize fast-switching SiC and IGBT power stages, including gate loops, parasitic inductance, filtering, grounding, shielding, and EMC performance.
• Coordinate designs with hardware, systems, ECAD, PCBA, packaging, manufacturing teams, and suppliers for production readiness.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in hardware design, PCB layout, or power electronics development.
• Experience with digital and analog hardware interfaces, schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, and engineering documentation.
• Experience with Mentor Graphics/Xpedition, Altium, or equivalent ECAD tools.
• Experience with DRC, DFM, and DFA layout verification activities.
• Must be able to report to the Warren, Michigan location at least three times per week; GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of experience in PCB layout, hardware design, or power electronics development.
• Experience with EV propulsion systems, inverters, converters, battery systems, or automotive ECUs.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, CAN, LIN, and other automotive networking technologies.
• Experience with high-density, high-speed, RF, or mixed-signal PCB layouts.
• Experience with functional safety, manufacturing launches, supplier development, and production-ready PCB designs.
