TL;DR
Sr Staff System Engineer (GaN): Defining next-generation GaN power semiconductor ICs, silicon architectures, and technology roadmaps for low-voltage BLDC and PMSM motor-control applications with an accent on system requirements, power-stage design, and high-power-density prototypes. Focus on translating customer and application needs into IC specifications, analyzing switching and thermal trade-offs, validating evaluation boards, and collaborating with design, R&D, marketing, and customer engineering teams.

Location: Hybrid in San Jose, CA; Phoenix, AZ; or Chandler, AZ. Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States. No relocation.

Salary: $160,000–$235,000 annual pay, plus bonus opportunities.

Company

hirify.global is a semiconductor solution provider developing technology for automotive, industrial, infrastructure, and IoT applications.

What you will do

  • Define next-generation low-voltage GaN motor-control ICs, silicon architectures, electrical specifications, and multi-year technology roadmaps.
  • Translate system and customer requirements into IC requirements covering gate drive performance, protection features, sensing, packaging, thermal constraints, and integrated functionality.
  • Design, capture schematics, lay out, and validate high-power-density prototypes and evaluation boards for GaN power stages.
  • Perform worst-case circuit simulations, system trade-off analyses, competitive benchmarking, and motor-control characterization.
  • Collaborate with IC Design, R&D, Marketing, validation, quality, and functional-safety teams throughout product development.
  • Support tier-1 customers by co-designing future motor-control system topologies and resolving complex prototype issues.

Requirements

  • Current full-time authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in power electronics, semiconductor systems, or motor-drive design, including defining and launching motor-control ICs or discrete power solutions.
  • Experience with power drivers, motor-driver circuits, MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC or GaN devices, protection and diagnostics, and high-power PCB layout.
  • Proficiency with Matlab, Simulink, Simscape, Saber, PLECS, PSIM, or comparable motor-drive simulation and co-simulation tools.
  • Experience with IC architecture, product specifications, compliance matrices, prototype debugging, motor test stands, and standard laboratory equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field required; an MS or PhD is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Advanced understanding of GaN and other wide-bandgap semiconductor physics, including gate charge, reverse recovery, and parasitic inductance.
  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work arrangement at one of three U.S. locations.
  • Medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, commuter, life, AD&D, disability, and pet insurance options.
  • Paid sick time, paid holidays, and accrued paid vacation.
  • Collaborative, transparent, agile, innovative, global, and entrepreneurial work environment.
  • Opportunity to work with semiconductor engineering teams across more than 30 countries.
