TL;DR
Field Service Technician Level II (Electrical) (Power Distribution): Commissioning, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical distribution equipment such as switchboards, control panels, and power products with an accent on field diagnostics, customer-site service, and technical documentation. Focus on analyzing system failures, identifying root causes, coordinating corrective actions, and supporting Level I technicians during field operations.

Location: Dallas, Texas, United States. Occasional travel of up to 75% may be required to regional field offices, vendor sites, and customer job sites.

What you will do

  • Perform start-up, commissioning, installation, testing, troubleshooting, service, and repair of switchboards, control panels, and power products.
  • Install and modify electrical and mechanical components, including circuit breakers, bus bars, power cabling, and control wiring.
  • Analyze system failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions for moderately complex technical issues.
  • Coordinate with customers, contractors, Project Managers, engineering, manufacturing, and internal support teams.
  • Document service activities, parts usage, corrective actions, open items, and follow-up requirements.
  • Provide guidance, shadowing, and on-the-job support to Level I technicians.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience supporting switchgear start-up and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, work instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and lift or carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Associate degree, vocational training, military experience, or equivalent experience in power distribution systems.
  • Experience with UPS systems, generators, PDUs, electrical manufacturing, construction, or related field service work.
  • Experience mentoring or training entry-level technicians.
