Field Service Engineer, Medium Voltage (Solar Power)

Location: Field-based in the Las Vegas, Nevada metropolitan area; candidates must reside in the territory. Approximately 80% regional travel across the Western United States is required, with occasional travel elsewhere in the U.S.

Salary: $38.00–$45.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Test, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze large-scale medium-voltage systems at customer sites.
• Perform transformer core testing, DGA sampling, leak repairs, cold weld patch repairs, operations, and maintenance.
• Use high-voltage test equipment to identify root causes for quality investigations and failure reports.
• Collaborate with Medium Voltage Engineering, Global Service, Quality, suppliers, and customers on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop product procedures, perform warranty repairs and technical support, and maintain accurate spare-parts inventories.
• Attend technical meetings with SMA AG engineering counterparts and support customer satisfaction while controlling field-service costs.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in electrical, electronic, network communications, or medium-voltage equipment; experience in both areas is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent qualified experience, with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Medium Voltage Transformer Levels I and II, switchgear and circuit breaker maintenance, electrical safety for utilities, and Substation Maintenance I and II certifications from an accredited institution, either before or upon hire.
• Working familiarity with high-voltage test equipment and experience interpreting results, including hands-on transformer and cold weld patch repairs.
• Applicants must be authorized to work full time in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available, including H-1B, OPT, CPT, or TN sponsorship.
• Ability to work occasional nights and weekends, travel extensively, lift up to 50 pounds, and work around electrical hazards and extreme temperatures.

Nice to have

• Experience with pad-mounted transformers, medium-voltage terminations, and switchgear operation.
• Advanced knowledge of power plant measurement devices and techniques.
• Knowledge of solar or alternative energy markets and the National Electric Code.
