Field Service Engineer, Medium Voltage, Central (Dallas, TX)

Location: Field-based in the Dallas, Texas metropolitan area; candidates must reside in the territory. Approximately 80% regional travel is required, with occasional travel elsewhere in the United States.

Salary: $38.00–$45.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Test, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze large-scale medium-voltage systems at customer sites.
• Perform medium-voltage transformer core testing, maintenance, warranty repairs, leak repairs, and cold weld patch repairs.
• Use high-voltage test equipment and DGA results to identify failures and determine corrective actions.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, suppliers, and the Global Service Organization on root cause analyses and customer updates.
• Develop procedures for medium-voltage products and maintain spare-parts inventory and assigned-site maintenance activities.
• Support customers through regular technical coordination with medium-voltage engineering teams at SMA AG.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience in electrical, electronic, network communications, or medium-voltage equipment; experience in both areas is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent qualified experience, with strong problem-solving skills.
• Medium-voltage certifications in transformer levels I and II, switchgear and circuit breaker maintenance, electrical safety for utilities, and substation maintenance I and II, obtained through an accredited institution or completed upon hire.
• Working familiarity with high-voltage test equipment and hands-on experience with cold weld patch repairs and field transformer repairs.
• Ability to work occasional nights and weekends, travel extensively, work in field conditions, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be authorized to work full-time in the United States. Visa sponsorship, including H-1B, OPT, CPT, and TN sponsorship, is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with pad-mounted transformers, medium-voltage terminations, and switchgear operation.
• Advanced knowledge of power plant measurement devices and techniques.
• Knowledge of solar or alternative energy markets and the National Electrical Code.
