Major Case Specialist, GL (Insurance Claims)

Location: NJ - Morristown, United States

Salary: $104,000–$171,700 annual base salary, plus potential performance-based cash incentive and sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Handle severe and complex specialty claims throughout the full claim lifecycle, including coverage, investigation, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, litigation management, and resolution.
• Investigate liability, damages, injuries, and contribution potential through interviews, records review, outside investigations, and contact with policyholders, claimants, witnesses, legal representatives, medical providers, law enforcement, and experts.
• Develop creative resolution strategies, negotiate settlements, manage litigated claims, and coordinate counsel, discovery, and legal expenses.
• Establish indemnity and expense reserves, evaluate exposure, maintain claim files, and ensure compliance with quality standards, procedures, and state-specific regulations.
• Collaborate with underwriting, coverage counsel, subrogation, risk control, medical, fraud, and other internal or external resources.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, consulting, and training to claim professionals and business partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 10+ years of claim handling experience, including 5–7 years handling serious injury and complex liability claims.
• At least four years of bodily injury litigation claim handling experience or comparable claim litigation experience.
• Advanced expertise in coverage, liability and damages analysis, commercial lines products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, litigation management, investigation, settlement, and medical terminology.
• Excellent negotiation, customer service, communication, analytical thinking, judgment, decision-making, coaching, influence, and persuasion skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions, manage multimillion-dollar claim exposure, and use business technology tools effectively.
