Trial Attorney (Insurance Defense)

Location: Garden City, New York, United States. The role is generally based in an office environment, with occasional work-from-home arrangements depending on office needs. Frequent travel, occasional overnight travel, and extended hours may be required.

Salary: $108,000–$162,000 annual starting range; national range of $108,000–$200,000.

What you will do

• Represent clients as lead counsel in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation litigation.
• Handle a caseload spanning low- to moderately complex matters, varying in severity, product line, and specialization.
• Apply trial advocacy skills, manage cases proactively, and maintain a productive case volume with limited managerial oversight.
• Prepare legally, factually, and analytically sound case valuations and communicate updates to clients and claims stakeholders.
• Monitor changes in law, technology, local rules, and procedural requirements affecting litigation strategy.
• Collaborate with attorneys, claims professionals, and support staff while developing expertise for more complex cases.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license in the state where the position is located.
• Typically more than three years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
• Strong trial advocacy, legal research, analytical, negotiation, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff both on-site and remotely, adapt to changes in law and legal technology, and follow applicable ethical and corporate policies.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Nice to have

• First-party medical, PIP, or New York No-Fault experience.
• Experience handling examinations under oath and multiclaim investigations.
• Third-party liability bodily injury or first-party uninsured/underinsured experience.
