Director Major Projects (Transmission)

Location: Corpus Christi, TX; Tulsa, OK; or Austin, TX. The role requires travel of typically up to 50%, with potential for extended travel or temporary relocation during critical project phases, and includes site inspections involving uneven terrain, ladders, and hazardous conditions.

Salary: $188,524.00–$245,080.00 base salary, plus annual bonus and long-term incentive.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end execution of large, complex high-voltage transmission projects with budgets from $1 billion to $10 billion.
• Direct project safety, integrated scheduling, budgeting, contingency management, construction, staffing, and delivery against approved investment.
• Establish commercial and contracting strategies and negotiate contractor, EPC, engineering, and joint-venture agreements.
• Provide executive reporting on siting, regulatory, procurement, engineering, construction, budget, and team requirements.
• Manage executive risk registers, change management, disputes, stakeholder relationships, and regulatory filing readiness.
• Lead cross-functional teams, contractors, utilities, regional transmission organizations, regulators, landowners, and other partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, project management, accounting, finance, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of qualified experience, including major construction projects, project management, portfolio management, commissioning, project controls, power generation, or contract negotiations.
• Progressive responsibility, strong business acumen, effective leadership, and experience developing project teams.
• PMP certification and a valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to travel as required, typically up to 50%, and safely perform field site inspections.
• Strong capabilities in risk mitigation, commercial strategy, conflict management, decision-making, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder communication.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in business, engineering, project management, accounting, finance, construction management, or a related field.
• Experience with 345–765 kV transmission, underground, HVDC, or submarine projects.
• Experience coordinating with PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, state utility commissions, USACE, USFWS, and NEPA processes.
• Experience in direct supervision, executive communication, strategic planning, and project risk assessment.
• Experience across construction, utility, power generation, transmission, distribution, telecom, or nuclear environments.
