SSDS Software Engineer (Defense Technology)

Location: Fully onsite in Arlington, Virginia, United States; travel to Navy land-based test sites may be required for up to 10% of the time.

Salary: $114,000–$184,000 or $135,000–$231,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

• Design, implement, integrate, and test high-performance tactical software components in modern C++ or Java.
• Develop interfaces and middleware wrappers for SSDS, RAM, and CIWS tactical data streams.
• Build low-latency interfaces for tactical message transport using TCP/UDP, DDS, ActiveMQ, and Kafka.
• Prototype automated testing solutions and support integration in company laboratories and Navy land-based test sites.
• Translate Navy weapon specifications and Interface Control Documents into software requirements and automated test scripts.

Requirements

• Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another STEM field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 5 years of experience designing, developing, and managing complex DoD software systems.
• Hands-on experience with tactical Navy programs, including SSDS, RAM, or CIWS.
• Strong C++ or Java skills, including memory management and real-time execution constraints.
• Experience with DDS, standard network protocols, Git or SVN, Jira, Confluence, and structured SDLC processes.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, Swarm, Ansible, Salt, or Terraform.
• Experience with Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, and GitLab CI pipelines.
• Experience with VMware ESXi, VLANs, routing, infrastructure as code, and configuration management.
