Software Engineer, Search - USDS

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $122,574–$259,200 annually, with potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Build and own search engine systems that provide TikTok users with an effective search experience.
• Optimize search quality and user perception through product-focused improvements.
• Develop core systems and algorithms for query understanding, result ranking, and query recommendation.
• Apply information retrieval and machine learning techniques, including methods related to NLP, computer vision, and recommender systems.
• Improve the reliability of large-scale consumer-facing backend services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of experience developing large-scale consumer-facing services or backend systems.
• Proficiency in one or more of C++, Python, Java, or Golang.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of search, recommendation, ranking, advertising, or similar domains.
• Experience with machine learning, deep learning, backend engineering, large-scale systems, data science, or full-stack development.
• Experience with big data frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
