Mortgage Originator (FHA/VA)

Location: Portland, Maine, United States of America. The role is primarily office-based but may require travel to customers’ homes or business locations and regular sales calls outside the office.

What you will do

• Interview applicants and analyze income, assets, debts, credit data, and financial objectives.
• Assess creditworthiness and issue borrower pre-qualification statements.
• Recommend suitable FHA, VA, conventional, and other residential mortgage programs.
• Market mortgage products and develop business through customers, Realtors, builders, developers, seminars, and community outreach.
• Negotiate loan terms, advise on alternative banking products, and maintain customer relationships.
• Monitor mortgage regulations, real estate market developments, and compliance with lending procedures and the SAFE Act.

Requirements

• Associate degree and 2 years of sales experience, or at least 4 years of combined higher education and relevant work experience, including 2 years of sales experience.
• Thorough knowledge of FHA and VA regulations, conventional loan requirements, and real estate law.
• Proven sales ability, strong mathematical skills, and knowledge of personal computers and relevant software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, colleagues, and community contacts.
• Ability to work independently, follow through on details, and operate under critical time constraints.
• Responsibility to establish and maintain federal registration requirements under the SAFE Act.
