Staff Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States; at least 3 days per week in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $131,600–$210,300 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Design, build, and evolve secure, scalable transaction-processing platforms for Acceptance Solutions.
• Provide technical direction across architecture, API strategy, integration patterns, and engineering standards.
• Develop APIs, microservices, enterprise integrations, and event-driven processing systems.
• Implement payment event processing, capture processing, event enrichment, transaction matching, and payment message handling.
• Use Generative AI and agentic AI workflows to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable solutions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, 2 years with an advanced degree, 0 years with a PhD, or 8+ years of relevant experience without the specified degree path.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, or Kotlin.
• Experience with system design, architecture, debugging, troubleshooting, production support, and technical leadership.
• Experience with API-first design, REST, OpenAPI, JSON, webhooks, microservices, cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
• Knowledge of payment event processing, transaction lifecycles, payment clearing, payment network protocols, and financial-services compliance.
• Ability to use AI-assisted tools and establish safe AI practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, message queues, workflow orchestration, retry mechanisms, dead-letter queues, event replay, exactly-once processing, and idempotency.
• Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, SAML, mTLS, IAM, and observability tools such as Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with automated, contract, performance, and API certification testing.
• Experience with RAG, intelligent automation, SFTP, batch processing, Avro, Protobuf, and regulated fintech or banking products.
