Software Development Engineer (US Federal) (Distributed Systems)

Location: Reston, Virginia, USA; hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, or partners. May require onsite work at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.

Annual base salary: $137,000–$205,400 USD for the primary location; additional U.S. locations: $123,900–$222,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and operate distributed messaging, streaming, and caching services.
• Build core software modules and client libraries for platforms such as Kafka, Redis, and RabbitMQ.
• Automate deployment, observability, alerting, and lifecycle management for large-scale service clusters.
• Run infrastructure across Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare metal, private cloud, and public cloud environments.
• Optimize hirify.global services in U.S. AWS regions and participate in the on-call rotation.
• Partner with Federal Cyber Defense on platform security, governance, risk, compliance, and security operations.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• At least 5 years of distributed systems, software engineering, and systems, infrastructure, or platform experience.
• At least 5 years of experience with Ruby, Golang, Python, Java, or Scala.
• At least 5 years of experience working on U.S. federal projects.
• Experience with large-scale SaaS platforms, hybrid on-premise and cloud environments, and systems networking.
• Experience with distributed systems under high load, Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, Chef, CI/CD, and Agile development.

Nice to have

• Active TS/SCI with CI Poly clearance.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliance with IAT Level II certification, a current Computing Environment credential, and an approved specialty certification.
• Experience with Java, C/C++, Erlang, Python, or Golang and the ability to inspect complex open-source service internals.
