Senior Software Developer (Java)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office. Coverage includes AMER business hours (EST/PST), with some flexibility for customer trading hours.

Salary: $86,000–$118,000 base pay annually, plus annual bonus or commission, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Support Eqlipse Trading customers across the AMER region by investigating issues, providing technical guidance, and delivering solutions.
• Develop, test, and maintain Java-based electronic trading applications using AI-powered development tools and agentic workflows.
• Analyze production environments and perform root cause analysis for complex technical issues.
• Work with trading protocols, market data, and order management workflows.
• Collaborate with customers, product teams, and developers across Canada, EMEA, and APAC on releases, integrations, onboarding, and continuous improvement.
• Participate occasionally in after-hours on-call support with team backup and mentorship.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software development experience with strong Java skills and working knowledge of Python and SQL.
• Experience troubleshooting technical issues in complex application environments and performing root cause analysis.
• Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Interest in financial technology, electronic trading systems, and direct customer collaboration.
• Ability to work in a hybrid Toronto arrangement with at least 3 days per week in the office.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Opencode, or Kiro.
• Familiarity with Linux or Unix, FIX protocol, order management systems, or capital markets technology.
• Experience with customer support, distributed systems, messaging middleware, or high-performance applications.
