Data Centre and Field Engineering Manager

Location: Sites across the UK, including a data centre in the North West and telephone exchanges nationwide. Regular site travel and occasional out-of-hours work are required.

Salary: Up to £240 per day.

A national network operator running physical network infrastructure across its own data centre, third-party data centres, and telephone exchanges across the UK.

What you will do

• Own the condition, standards, asset records, and performance of infrastructure installations across the estate.
• Run day-to-day data centre operations, including availability, safety, maintenance standards, and protection of critical infrastructure during building works.
• Direct and schedule field engineers and contractors across the UK, balancing planned work, installations, and break/fix activity.
• Manage field service, colocation, data centre, and maintenance contracts, including reviews, service levels, spend, and escalations.
• Forecast space, power, and cooling capacity; manage the data centre budget and deliver approved infrastructure projects.
• Lead the engineering team, support colocation customers and remote hands services, and act as the senior escalation point for site incidents.

Requirements

• Experience running a data centre or comparable critical infrastructure, including sites where you are not permanently based.
• Working knowledge of data centre M&E systems, including power distribution, UPS, generators, cooling, and environmental monitoring.
• Experience directing field engineering across a wide geography, including scheduling, dispatch, and prioritisation.
• Experience managing third-party service contracts, maintenance regimes, service reviews, and operational spend.
• Experience with unmanned or partner-controlled sites, business cases, budget management, health and safety, permits to work, and contractor control.
• People management experience, a record of developing engineers, clear stakeholder communication, and a full driving licence.

Nice to have

• CDCMP, CDCDP, or an equivalent data centre certification.
• Electrical qualification.
