Staff Software Engineer, Runtime Systems (AI Infrastructure)

Location: London, England

Salary: £116,000–£155,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus and equity awards.

What you will do

• Design and build runtime components for complex AI, simulation, robotics, and engineering workloads.
• Define workload abstractions, execution contracts, schemas, compatibility mechanisms, and validation systems.
• Design interfaces and adapters for Kubernetes, Argo, OSMO, and heterogeneous execution environments.
• Build production software that improves reliability, observability, debuggability, and workload execution.
• Develop experiments, benchmarks, and performance analysis methods for large-scale GPU infrastructure.
• Lead ambiguous systems architecture problems, influence technical direction, mentor engineers, and contribute to hiring standards.

Requirements

• Significant experience building complex systems software, distributed infrastructure, runtimes, workflow systems, or related technology.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, runtime systems, workflow or execution engines, programming languages, cluster orchestration, or high-performance systems software.
• Strong production coding skills and experience designing APIs, protocols, schemas, or contracts between independently evolving systems.
• Strong understanding of failure modes, state, authority, retries, concurrency, idempotency, cancellation, and side effects in distributed systems.
• Experience making architectural decisions, communicating across teams, and influencing technical direction without direct authority.
• Access to export-controlled information requires U.S. person status, eligibility without export authorization, or eligibility and reasonable likelihood of obtaining the required authorization.

Nice to have

• Experience with Go, Rust, C, C++, Python, Kubernetes, containerized infrastructure, Argo, OSMO, Temporal, Ray, or Kubeflow.
• Experience with GPU clusters, high-performance computing, AI infrastructure, simulation, robotics, autonomous systems, compilers, or performance engineering.
• Experience building cloud infrastructure at scale or platforms operated by autonomous software or AI agents.
